Over the last several years there has been a major resurgence in the use of Braille. Not surprisingly this has occurred alongside the advent of the accessibility features built in to all Apple devices. And it is a trend that is increasing as other platforms such as Android and Google increase the accessibility of their standard products.

For some people using speech output is fine. For anyone that is passionate about Braille and reading, being able to connect a Braille display to a range of your everyday devices (phone, laptop, tablet) is an absolute game changer.

A key benefit of a Braille display over a Braille note-taker is clear when we consider how quickly the operating systems and models of devices like smart phones, tablets and laptops are changing. This is not an issue when you use a Braille display as they will work with all of them. Need a new smart phone or tablet? No problem, use your existing Braille display – there is no need to up-grade.

A Braille note-taker on the other hand is stuck with the operating system and hardware that is built into the note-taker. Very soon a note-taker becomes out-of-date and less able to interact with current technology.

There is also the cost to consider. The Focus 40 cell Braille display for example, is less than half the cost of a Braille note-taker.
